# Authentication

> API access and authentication requirements.

The Orica Public API is designed for open access. Most endpoints require no authentication.

***

## Public Endpoints

All read-only endpoints are publicly accessible:

* `GET /markets`
* `GET /disputes`
* `GET /trades/market/{address}`
* `WS /ws/markets/{address}`
* `WS /ws/activity`

> [!NOTE]
>
> No API keys, tokens, or headers are required for public endpoints.

***

## Request Headers

While no authentication headers are required, you may include:

| Header | Purpose |
| - | - |
| `Accept: application/json` | Explicitly request JSON (optional) |
| `User-Agent: YourApp/1.0` | Identify your application (recommended) |

***

## IP-Based Identification

The API tracks requests by IP address for rate limiting purposes. If you are behind a proxy, the `X-Forwarded-For` header is used.

***

## Future Authentication

Future versions of the API may introduce authenticated endpoints for:

* Higher rate limits
* Write operations
* Premium data feeds
* Analytics access

These will be documented separately when available.

***

## WebSocket Connections

WebSocket connections are also unauthenticated but subject to:

* Connection limits per IP
* Message rate limits
* Idle timeout disconnection

See [Rate Limits](https://docs.orica.markets/api-reference/rate-limits.md) for details.
